Chakras

Life is energy and the chakras manage this energy.  The chakras are the conduits through which the universal energy flows.  Chakras are spinning wheel-like vortices of energy.

The chakras interact with the electromagnetic energy field and transform this into the energy that sustains our lives.  The freedom with which energy can flow back and forth between you and the universe, is in direct correlation to the total health and well-being that you experience.

There are seven major chakras or energy centres, located within the subtle body.

The base chakra is located at the base of the spine – the right to be here

The right to be here is one’s right to exist.  The right to have one’s basic needs met is central to the development of the first chakra.

It is safe for me to be here; the earth supports me and meets my needs; I love my body and trust its wisdom; I always have abundance; I’m here and I’m real

The sacral chakra is located in the lower abdomen – the right to feel

Obstructed emotional expression infringes upon one’s basic right to feel

I deserve pleasure in my life; life is pleasurable; I embrace and celebrate my sexuality; my sexuality is sacred; I absorb information about my feelings

The solar plexus chakra is located at the top of the ribcage – the right to act

The right to act is obstructed by the abuse of authority by significant adults.  Fear of punishment - physical or emotional, impairs one’s personal power.

I honour the power within me; I accomplish tasks easily and effortlessly; I do whatever I set out to do

The heart chakra is located in the centre of the chest – the right to love and be loved

This right is damaged when parents/significant adults do not love unconditionally or do not show love to their child.  Judgmental attitudes towards same-gender, cross-cultural, religious or racial relationships, close the heart centre and obstruct the flow of love energy

I am worthy of love; I am loving to myself and others; there is an infinite supply of love; I live in harmony with others

The throat chakra is located at the hollow of the throat – the right to speak and hear the truth

When one is lied to and not allowed to speak or tell the truth, including keeping family secrets, this right is damaged.

I hear and speak the truth; I express myself with clear intent; creativity flows in and through me; my voice is necessary

The third eye chakra is located in the centre of the forehead – the right to see

When one is told that one’s perceptions are wrong or when things are deliberately hidden or kept from one, this right is damaged.

I manifest my vision, I see all things in clarity, I am open to the wisdom within

The crown chakra is located at the top of the head - the right to know

This includes the right to information, truth, education and knowledge.  This also includes the right to find and practice a religion or form of spirituality that one resonates with.  Forcing a particular religion or belief onto another, infringes on one’s personal relationship with the Divine.

I am open to new ideas, I am guided by a higher power, I am guided by inner wisdom, Divinity resides within, the world is my teacher

You won’t necessarily know whether a chakra is out of balance, but if you find that you seem to be attracting negative incidents, or find yourself in conflict with others, or not enjoying your work, then this is a clear indication that one or more of your energy centres, is out of alignment.

Chakras perform their many duties in perfect synchronicity with our ductless endocrine glands and lymphatic systems, by feeding in good bio-energies and disposing of unwanted bio-energies. The hormones secreted by these glands have a profound effect on the mental and physical health of individuals.    Therefore, it is important that we address issues causing an imbalance, firstly in our energy body, then our emotional body and finally in the physical body.

When our chakras are balanced, the right amount of life-giving energy is able to move through the body, resulting in a harmonious and peaceful existence.

Chakras do go out of alignment when we battle to cope with the stresses and strains of life.  It might then be necessary to go for a chakra alignment and balancing, as this will clear negative energy that has collected around the energy centres and will bring the chakras to the right size – about the size of a CD.   However, one must be aware, that just as we have to maintain our vehicles, so must we maintain our emotional and physical balance.  How do we do this?

  • Exercise is extremely important, not only for the physical body, but for the mind as well.  This doesn’t mean that one has to spend hours at the gym or on the road, 15 to 20 minutes a day of reasonably energetic exercise will keep you on track
  • Healthy eating plays a huge role in maintaining a balanced emotional and physical body

Foods and Substances that Negatively Affect the Chakras

Greatly alcohol, caffeine, chocolat, cigarettes/cigars,  drugs of any kind, red meat

Moderately Turkey and chicken, calming or stimulatiang herbs, processed foods, shellfish, white flour, white sugar

Somewhat carbonated beverages, dairy products, produce and grains grown with pesticides, seafood apart from shellfish

Foods and Substances that Positively Affect the Chakras

Freshly picked fruits and vegetables, especially organic

Bread products baked with sprouted or whole grains

Soy milk and tofu

Juice consumed within 20 minutes of squeezing – the life-force escapes after 20 minutes

Food that is blessed and given thanks for

  • Using the mind to maintain the balance of the chakras.  If one tends to focus on the negative aspects of life, one sends out a lower vibration and this affects the quality of the energy that one draws in, thus determining the level of energy flowing into your chakras

It is vital to understand that the happiness of our life, is determined by the quality of our thoughts.  Each thought carries a vibration and our thoughts determine the level of energy we bring into our bodies.  Focus on the positive, always express gratitude, always see the glass as half full and never half empty.  Life is a gift and we must be grateful for the learning.
