Aromatherapy

As forms of healing that are alternative to Western Medicine are becoming more recognized and practiced, the medicine world has seen the growth of Aromatherapy as a way to better physical and psychological health.  Aromatherapy is a practice that is based on natural, essential oils that are gathered from various plants, leaves, roots and other parts of the plant to be inhaled. The essential oils can also be absorbed through the skin.

It is not uncommon nowadays for people to be wary of using pharmaceutical drugs to help ease ailments such as stress, mild depression, memory loss and energy levels. These are a few of the reasons that people turn to Aromatherapy and are a few of the ailments that can be eased significantly by Aromatherapy.

Synergy

The putting together of essential oils is a very precise and acute process. The right plant substances mixed together can create unique and beneficial combinations. This combining of essential oils is known commonly as synergy. The oils have the potential to become more powerful and effective when correctly combined, which is why aromatherapy therapists need to be properly educated and trained. These combinations can, however, be problematic if not combined properly. The wrong combination or concentration of essential oils can result in allergic reactions and adverse affects. This is why it is very important to ensure that your aromatherapy practitioner is properly trained and qualified.

Brain Boosting Benefits:

If you are after extra stimulation for your overall cognitive function and memory, aromatherapy could be a beneficial consideration. Although diseases like Alzheimer’s are incurable, there is research to show that aromatherapy has prolonged the progression of the disease and helped patients to stay aware for longer periods of time. Certain essential oils are also great for younger patients with research indicating that oils such as sage assist children in remembering things for a longer period of time.

Headaches

Far too often, we reach for the nearest painkiller the moment we feel a slight headache coming on. Jumping straight to pharmaceuticals can sometimes be damaging to your body and can often not be a permanent cure. Aromatherapy can be a fantastic, natural way to both stop headaches as well as prevent them even starting. Essential oils are often used to target anxiety and stress, which are very heavily linked to headaches. Some oils that are used for headache prevention are avocado, rosemary, almond and peppermint.

Feelings of Depression

Whilst it is not recommended that you decide to treat depression without the help of a psychologist and doctor, many people have turned to aromatherapy to beat feelings of passing depression and low energy. Essential oils such as peppermint, jasmine and lavender are used in essential oils to treat mild depression.
