Description

I am a WITS trained Counselling Psychologist. I completed my internship and training at both the University of the Witwatersrand Health Sciences, as well The University of the Western Cape where I worked with staff, students, and youth in the area. I spent a number of years working with those affected by trauma (war, xenophobia, violence, torture, and child abuse) in a number of contexts. My thesis was on resilience and post-traumatic growth, with a particular emphasis on repeated trauma and the influence of hostile surrounding contexts.

I am currently engaged in private practice, and have a special interest in working with trauma / complex-trauma (complex-PTSD), and the myriad of effects that this has on the self and relationships with others. In particular, social anxiety, dissociative states, comprised sense of self, identity disturbances, mood disorders and volatility, anger, fear, and panic.

In addition, I take a strong interest in careful and accurate assessment and diagnosis for optimal treatment. I have been trained in a number of modalities (including CBT, DBT, ACT, narrative, and psychodynamic psychotherapy), and I work predominantly using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (a type of therapy that focussed on changing the relationship towards our thoughts and feelings, increasing our tolerance, humour, and ability to feel deeply, while identifying what is most important to us, and taking action in line with this, even when it is uncomfortable), as well as Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (which emphasises the importance of a safe relationship, self-understanding and acceptance, and a greater awareness of our patterns, feelings, needs, responsibilities, and choices).

I am available for both in-person, as well as online, psychotherapy.
